Air-Conditioning Energy Inspections

4th January 2011 is the deadline for all air-conditioning installations of 12kw or more to be inspected and reported. The 12kW limit relates to the sum of all equipment on the premises, so that a small number of 3 & 4 kW units will give rise to the requirement. The new regulation comes from the energy Performance of Buildings Regulations 2007.

The inspection must be made by an accredited Air-Conditioning Energy Inspector and lodged on the national ‘Landmark’ database.

There are penalties for non-compliance, and enforcement is thought to be likely because the equipment giving rise to the requirement is usually visible on the outside of the building.

The following briefing gives general background and description. The FAQ gives more technical information in a Q & A format.
